About one hour from the Corinthian area, there is the mountainous area of Menalo, in the heart of the Peloponnese, the richest in history and landscapes place in Greece.
Menalo is a place rich in history and tradition since the presence of man has been evident for hundreds of years. Countless legends and traditions are linked to the mountain, where gods and heroes of mythology used to live. Menalo was the residence of Pan, the god of shepherds with the goat legs, where goddess Demetra used to show up, and where the Nymphs used to live.
Dozens of villages, at the foothills and at the perimeter of its fertile land, define the volume of the mountain, which rises to almost 1000 m above the vast arcadic plateau, already around 1000 m above sea level.
On this web we find the largest organized path of Greece, the Menalon Trail, 75 km long.
We will follow the route from the village of Zygovisti to Elati on a 14.9 km long path, of moderate difficulty.
The wonderful and famous fir forests of Menalo are the biggest part of the flora of the place, and along with the oaks, pines and cedars they create a rare natural composition. The flora is complemented by a wide variety of shrubs, herbaceous plants and flowers on the plateaus and peaks, which, especially in spring, make beautiful and colorful lawns.
The path has an altitude difference of about 450 meters, starting at 1150 meters and finishing at 1050 meters.
The duration of the trip is about 6 hours and hiking shoes are required.
