Corinth Information

The new city of Corinth was built, in order to continue the history of the ancient city, in the most central spot of the Corinthian Gulf. The port, which has been upgraded the last years, hosts cruise ships, private yachts and sailboats.

The access to Corinth is either by car or train, via the Athens Suburban Railway (a line that connects Corinth to the center of Athens and the airport) or by busses connecting the city with various destinations both in the Peloponnese and the rest of Greece.

It has the largest market in the region with many shops and products and a newly established modern mall. Downtown you can drink your coffee, go shopping, enjoy delicacies of traditional or modern cuisine or rent a bike and ride along the Corinthian Gulf enjoying the wonderful view.

Kiato information

The third largest city of Corinthia, Kiato, is located at the coastal part of the region and very close to Ancient Sicyon. The access is very easy either by car or bus, via the coastal road that connects Corinth to Patras (Kiato is only 20 minutes away from the city of Corinth), or by train, via the Athens Suburban Railway (a line that connects Kiato to the center of Athens and the airport).

The last few years it has become a great attraction for many visitors because of its large market, many restaurants, cafes and nightclubs. Big parts of the beach have been supplied with umbrellas and sun-beds, thus offering wonderful relaxation by the sea.

Located beside the Corinthian Gulf, Vrahati may not be large in size but has greatly evolved in the last few years, providing its guests with all the comforts. Trendy cafes, fish taverns by the sea and a nice beach create a beautiful small town in Corinthia.

It is ideal for those wanting a quiet stay and a very good choice for families, as there is an amusement park by the beach operating each summer.

Korfos information

Just 35 klm from the Corinth Canal on the way to Epidaurus we meet the village of Korfos. There at the waters of a quiet bay on the Saronic side, a small sandy beach surrounded by olive trees and pines creates the perfect setting for a quiet holiday.

The village of Korfos has been developed the last few years, yet remains a quiet destination, ideal for relaxation. It is an ideal choice to serve as your base for trips to Epidaurus, Corinth, Ancient Corinth, Loutraki, etc.

The beach is suitable for families and is located in the village, which offers visitors every comfort (stay in picturesque accommodation, food in taverns by the sea, coffee, etc.)

For the romantics, the Korfos beach looks like a small island, while the unique bottom of the sea is ideal for fishing and diving.

Goura Village

Goura is a beautiful picturesque village built on the slopes of Ziria. It is not far from the town of Kiato and the drive there is magical; from olive and orange trees, to pine trees and firs and from the top of the slope you can see the colorful lowland of Feneos. The village is always welcoming and warm. You can enjoy your coffee at the village square, taste local delicacies and fresh meat from hunting, and walk on the forest trails.

The traditional hostels are a very good choice for a cozy stay, from where you can plan your trips in the area (e.g. Lake Doksa, Stymphalia etc.)

On the trail of an ancient settlement, known for the production of onion, Agioi Theodoroi is the first town one meets when they enter ​​Corinthia on the way from Athens. Access there is very convenient as it is close to the highway and there is also a station of the Athens Suburban Railway, a line that connects Athens and the airport with Corinth and Patras.

The blue and warm waters of the Saronic Gulf, combined with the mountain of Gerania create a great setting for rest and relaxation.

Ancient Corinth was an important city-state of ancient Greece. Ancient Corinth controlled the pivotal position of the Canal of Corinth and was the most important commercial hub of the ancient world, until it was threatened by Athens. Corinth was considered the richest city in the ancient world.

The village of Ancient Corinth is now quite touristic and next to it stand the ruins of the ancient city and of the temples and the archaeological museum, which attract many visitors every year.

Today you will find in that area the archaic temple of Apollo, which was built in 530 BC with monolithic Doric columns, of which seven remain upright in a prominent position over the market ruins. The market is formed by a series of uniform establishments, each of which was divided into two rooms.

Accessible is also the Conservatory, which was built in the 1st century next to findings showing that there used to be an ancient theater with a capacity of 18000 seats.

Finally there is the Asclepion which is carved, for the most part, on the rocks.

In the area you will also see the Acrocorinth, the castle of Corinth, where there used to be temples dedicated to Aphrodite, Dimitra and Kori.

The castle was in continuous use from ancient times until recently. Thus the buildings have been reconstructed several times, while the building material has been used several times to meet each time’s requirements.

Ancient Corinth

On the boarders of western Attica and Corinthia we meet the town of Kinetta, built by the Saronic Gulf, on a pine area at the foot of Gerania. The beach, which is one of the largest in northern Saronic, made Kinetta a popular tourist resort and the easy access to it (exit on 55th km of the Athens-Corinth National Road, “Kinetta” Suburban Railway Station) makes it an ideal choice for both a one-night stay and a long vacation.

In the last few years Kinetta has developed much and now it’s offering visitors many options regarding eating out, coffee or stay. Little taverns with home cooking, beach bars, camping and luxury hotels are just some of these options.

Nemea information:

The history of Nemea gets lost in the mists of time, since discoveries that have come to light show that the Nemea region has been inhabited since prehistoric times. It was named after the nymph, daughter of Asopos, the river that crosses and waters the valley and the vineyards to this day.

It is associated mythologically with the first labor of Hercules that strangled the lion and also with the Nemean Games, which along with the Isthmian, the Pythian and the best known of all Olympic Games formed the circle of the sacred Panhellenic games of antiquity.

A major attraction of Nemea is the ancient stadium which was built in 330 BC and has a capacity of approximately 40,000 spectators. In this the athletic games “Nemea” were held, which were established in 573 BC as part of a celebrations cycle in honor of Zeus, whose temple existed there. The games were held every two years and probably lasted five days. The prize was a wreath of wild celery.

Another major attraction is the Temple and the Sanctuary of Nemean Zeus. This was the place where the athletes and the pilgrims brought animals to sacrifice to Zeus, in hopes that their prayers would be heard.

Nemea is also known, since ancient times, for its vine growing and winemaking. Findings show that the “red wine making” method had been applied in the region, since grape seeds have been found inside vessels, a sign that the treatment they used then is similar to the current modern method.

Nemea Wines

Today Nemea is the headquarters and the main region to produce the grape variety “Agiorgitiko”, from which famous wines are made, with the top ones being called “Nemea” (Protected Designation of Origin- PDO). Dozens of wineries and wine presses are active and produce high quality wines that excel in international competitions. Some of them offer wine tours.

There are some trips, starting from Loutraki, where you can visit the sights of Nemea and taste the unique Nemean wines.

Xylokastro information

Shortly before the end of the boarders of the area of ​​Corinthia we find the seaside town of Xylokastro. It is considered to be a very cosmopolitan destination and many visitors arrive there from the Peloponnese or from Attica (Athens-Patras National Highway, Xylokastro Exit), to enjoy their holidays by the sea.

It is famous for its beach that lies next to the famous “Pefkias” pine forest. The sea has a “Blue Flag” award. It is also ideal during the winter as it can be your base for trips to nearby mountain destinations such as Ziria, Trikala and Fonissa Gorge.
